Meret Oppenheim — Digitization of a collection

Zurück zur Übersicht

A collection of works and a commission that comes with responsibility.

Meret Oppenheim (1913–1985) is considered one of the most original artists of the 20th century. Her body of work spans more than five decades and includes painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography—always evolving, never confined to a single style. The Kunstmuseum Bern holds a significant portion of her estate and commissioned recom art care to fully digitize the collection.

Der CRUSE-Scanner digitalisiert Kunstwerke bis 150 × 250 cm ohne jeden Kontakt mit dem Original

Tasks of this nature require more than just technical skill. They demand meticulous care for every single object—regardless of format, material, or condition. For us, this means: a contactless scanning process, calibrated standard lighting, and color-accurate results. Every file is a master file.

Contactless. True-to-color. Archival quality.

The CRUSE scanner digitizes artworks up to 150 × 250 cm without touching the original. No pressure, no UV light, and no impact on sensitive surfaces. The results are high-resolution, archival-quality files—suitable for use in research, publications, exhibitions, and long-term archiving.

Color accuracy is not an option here, but a prerequisite. Every step of the process is carried out under calibrated D50 standard lighting. The result: digitized images that are as close to the original as current technology allows.

The result: a digital archive for future generations

The digitized works form the basis for the Kunstmuseum Bern’s digital exhibition project—an interactive retrospective that documents Meret Oppenheim’s artistic development and makes it accessible to an international audience.

The Kunstmuseum Bern is one of the institutions with which recom art care has built a long-standing relationship based on trust. Projects like this one underscore what we strive for every day: digitization that does justice to the significance of a single work or an entire collection.
