Do it once.
Do it right.
Digitization with precision
For digitization, we work with CRUSE scanners and mobile DOM systems. Regardless of the technology employed, all digital reproductions are created in true color and high resolution. Each file is carefully processed and prepared to ensure its suitability for a wide range of print and digital applications across diverse fields. Throughout every step, our focus remains on the authenticity of the original and the integrity of the restoration.
CRUSE
Our CRUSE scanner is designed for the highest-quality digitization of flat originals, whether smooth or textured. The entire process is fully contactless, ensuring that even the most sensitive materials are preserved with the utmost care.
For especially gentle digitization, we employ LED lighting with exceptional colour rendering quality, entirely free of harmful UV radiation. Individually adjustable light positions allow surface structures and textures to be captured with remarkable clarity and depth. Each original is scanned line by line at a precise 90-degree angle under uniform illumination, ensuring absolute accuracy across the entire surface.
Objects displayed behind glass can also be digitized directly without any difficulty. For slightly curved or bent originals, a vacuum table gently secures the material, allowing for optimal scanning results. The maximum scanning area measures 150 × 250 cm; larger objects can be captured in sections and seamlessly digitally stitched together. Image resolution can be customized between 150 and 1.600 dpi to meet your specific requirements.
| Maximum scan size | 150 x 250 cm |
| Image resolution | 150 – 1,600 dpi |
DOM
The DOM, developed by recom, is a self-contained digitization system that employs a digital camera to capture images. Essentially, it functions as a portable miniature photo studio, suitable for both classic product photography and the reproduction of artworks such as paintings. Surfaces and objects are rendered with precise, lifelike accuracy. The system’s 75 individually controllable and dimmable LEDs allow for fully customizable lighting setups, providing a unique opportunity to capture the texture and character of each surface (see also D-DACE).
We have created our own software for LED control, which can be used to create different lighting situations for different objects and save them in a database. This enables reproducibility and efficiency. The DOM is space-saving, can be positioned almost anywhere, and can be operated by just one person. Its closed design makes recordings independent of ambient light influences, thus creating flexibility in the workflow. The optionally available underlight in combination with a cove – which gives the impression that the background of an object extends into infinity – and commercially available software enables the automated cropping of objects, which again saves time and money. It also allows for the time-efficient digitization of larger sets of templates with smaller formats. Like the CRUSE scanner, the DOM is capable of implementing our REFERENCE SCAN and its color fidelity.
The maximum scan size is 70 x 100 cm. The image resolution depends on the template and the camera lens used. We use a 50 MP camera as standard, but can of course also scale up.

We are happy to advise you in advance on which method is most suitable for the respective work and project objectives.
Digitization is carried out in consultation with you and with consideration for conservation requirements.

Meret Oppenheim | Bern Art Museum
We implemented the extensive Meret Oppenheim digital project, which lasted several weeks, using the Cruse scanner, focusing on the diversity of Meret Oppenheim’s materials and artistic techniques.
Grisebach | Presence and online auctions
Since 2015, we have been digitizing photographs, prints, paintings, and artistic objects for the Grisebach auction house. We use CRUSE to create reference scans as color-accurate digital copies of larger-format works, while DOM is used to capture smaller-format works on site.

MULTITOUCH TABLE | An example of our exploration of virtual reality is a multitouch table for the Kirchner Museum Davos as part of the exhibition “Kirchner’s Sketchbooks: From Pencil Sketch to Hologram.” Compared to conventional exhibitions in display cases or on walls, the interactive multitouch table offers the opportunity to present an extensive collection and a wide range of media.

Claude Monet | Staatsgalerie Stuttgart
We are using the Cruse scanner to digitize a series of paintings for the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, including Claude Monet’s painting “Fields in Spring.” Among many other applications, the data sets are also used by the museum for inventory purposes.
